TRAVELLERS have set up a sixth illegal encampment in Newport in less than six months.
Around ten caravans are currently parked up in a carpark behind the Velodrome, near its 4G pitches.
A resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “I was going to the Velodrome as I do most days and I saw loads of caravans in the carpark.
“I was really surprised to see the caravans. I do not think the travellers have ever parked up here before.
“People are not happy about the caravans being here. Let us hope they are moved on as soon as possible.”
A spokeswoman from Newport Live said: "Unfortunately we currently have an illegal encampment at Newport International Sports Village isolated to a car parking area at the rear of the velodrome.
"We are working within the appropriate legal process to have the travellers removed from the Sports Village as soon as possible."
Since October last year travellers have also pitched up in Pill, Black Ash Park, Coronation Park and Spytty Retail Park.
