BUDGET retailer B&M has announced it will be opening a store in Chepstow in June 2019, creating 80 jobs.
The chain, which has more than 600 stores across the UK, will be taking over the site at Beaufort Park in the Thornwell area of the town which was formerly occupied by Homebase, and closed in April.
Twenty staff from the Homebase store will be employed at the new B&M Home Store, with an additional 60 full and part-time staff also employed.
B&M is already advertising for customer service assistants to join the team at the new store.
The positions include customer service, checkouts, replenishment and shop floor.
There are a variety of permanent and temporary contracts available and the firm said there will be shifts to suit almost everyone although being flexible is essential.
B&M was formed in 1978 and is now one of the leading ‘variety’ retailers in the UK.
From its first store in Blackpool, Lancashire, B&M has grown to employ more than 26,000 staff.
The chain says on its website that it sells ‘top branded products at great prices’.
One resident of Thornwell, Chepstow, welcoming the opening of the new store, said: “This is great news in terms of a new store opening and also in the creation of jobs. I often shop at B&M Bargains in Newport. The range of goods they offer is staggering and the prices are really competitive. I just hope that B&M bring their full range to the new store in Chepstow - it’s certainly big enough. At last there’ll be some competition for Tesco in Thornwell.”
Customers can expect to find a wide variety of branded products including toys, food and drink, a pet range, health and beauty and homewares. There will also be an extensive DIY, decorating and furniture range.
The store will also boast its own garden centre – with everything from seeds to pots and hundreds of plant varieties delivered fresh to store throughout the season.
A spokesperson from B&M said: “We’re feeling really positive about the creation of more jobs for local people and we hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store. We are all really excited to get the doors open and welcome our new customers in June.”
Beaufort Park is also home to a Tesco Express, a motor dealer, dentist, medical research company and serviced office provider.
The former Homebase store also housed an Argos shop before it closed.
The company had been in discussions with the landlord but decided not to renew the lease.
