FOLLOWING the launch of the South Wales Argus Health and Care awards last week, here is a rundown of all the awards which are up for grabs, what they are for and the sponsors supporting them.

First up is the Innovative Care in the Care Home Sector Award, sponsored by Provincial Grand Lodge of Monmouthshire.

This award recognises the contribution of a team or individual nurse and/or health care support worker who strives to improve the delivery of care in the care home sector through developing ways to enhance nursing care.

The award for GP Practice of the Year, sponsored by Tovey Bros, rewards a GP practice that stands out for the level of care they provide. Have you received great service? Has a doctor or practice nurse gone above or beyond the call of duty? This award recognises the contribution of everyone in the GP practice to provide a good service to patients, where staff have gone the extra mile when treating you or someone you know.

A doctor, nurse or surgeon who demonstrates an innovative and caring approach to their work could be eligible for the Doctor of the Year, Special Recognition Nursing award and Surgeon of the Year awards respectively.

Those volunteers who have shown an exceptional and outstanding commitment to helping people, are eligible for the Volunteer of the Year award, sponsored by Western Power Distribution. They can be from inside or outside the NHS, working formally or informally. We want to know how they go above and beyond the call of duty.

The 3rd Sector of Community Team of the Year Award is about celebrating the important work that the 3rd sector and community teams do in health and care. Are you – or do you know someone who is - doing something new, something bold or different? Something new to you, new to the sector or a new way of tackling an age-old problem?

The Team of the Year Award will celebrate the very best work going on in teams across the health and care sector. The nominees will have provided an improved performance or service and demonstrate significant achievements and commitment to improving care and patient experience. Team work must be at the heart of everything they do.

We are also looking for a pharmacy that stands out for the level of care they provide. Have you received great service? Has a member of staff gone above or beyond the call of duty, greeted you with a smile and a friendly word?

Midwife of the Year will go to someone who demonstrates an innovative and caring approach to their work. This person must demonstrate outstanding levels of commitment to patient care.

The Outstanding Achievement Award is about celebrating someone who has pushed through change with tenacity and determination. This person may have had to overcome objections or barriers, finding new ways of working, developing new approaches to deliver the best possible care.

A support member of staff who demonstrates an innovative and caring approach to their work could be up for the Support Staff of the Year. This person must demonstrate outstanding levels of commitment to patient care and put the patient at the heart of what they do.

We are looking for a paramedic or first responder who demonstrates an innovative and caring approach to their work to be named Paramedic or First Responder of the Year.

The Research Impact Award recognises excellent research that has made a real difference to people’s lives. Whether it’s evidence that has changed practice in the NHS, public health or social care, or novel treatments.

Finally, the Together We Achieve Award rewards teams working together to deliver improved patient care and public health.
