A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure and assault by touching, in connection with an alleged incident on a canal path in Risca.
Gwent Police had reported that two ten-year-old boys had been approached by an unknown man – who allegedly exposed himself – while they were walking home along the canal path near Manor Road, Ty-Sign at 3.50pm on Tuesday, September 17.
On Thursday evening, police announced they had arrested a 19-year-old man from the Risca area on suspicion of indecent exposure and assault by touching. He currently remains in police custody.
Following the arrest, Detective Inspector Laura Bartley, who is investigating the incident, said: “I’d like to thank the public for providing vital information following our appeal that has consequently led to an arrest today."
She reiterated earlier advice, saying: "If your children have a mobile phone, please make sure it’s charged and they carry it with them when they go out.
"Tell your children to stick to busier routes if possible. Make sure your child knows what to do if they feel unsafe – we’d recommend they shout for help and look to find an adult who can help.
"If your child reports anything suspicious, please take as much detail as possible and report it to us immediately by calling 101 or 999.”
Risca Primary School had advised parents they would be sending letters out regarding the alleged incident.
