SEVERAL roads in Gwent remain closed due to flooding.

Heavy and persistent rain has blighted the country over the weekend.

The full list of current road closures:

  • The A4042, Usk Road. This is both ways from the A40 (Hardwick Roundabout) to A4042 (Little Mill Junction).
  • Osbaston Road – This is from the A466 Hereford Road.
  • The A4077 – This is both ways from Lamb Lane to Herons rest marina. The road has been closed since 3:10pm on Saturday.
  • Station Road – This is both ways from the A40 to Maesmawr Lane. The road is parallel to a canal and is therefore expected to remain closed until water level drops.
  • The A469 – This is both ways between Ystrad Mynach and Llanbradach. The flooding was caused by fast flowing water form the mountain.

There are also reports of heavy traffic due to flooding on B4228 both ways from High Street to Oakhill Pitch. This is affecting traffic between St Briavels and Chepstow.

The police also warned of heavy flooding at Redbrook Road, Wyesham and Mafron Road, Nelson.

There is flooding on Lower Raglan Road (near the gliding club), with some vehicles stuck. This is also the case on Cripple Creek Road and Chepstow Road in Raglan.

There is also flooding on Abernant Road, Newbridge on Usk, and Treddunnock.

Natural Resources Wales has issued flood warnings across Gwent as heavy rain continues to fall.

A flood warning has been issued for Newbridge on Usk.

It read: "At 11am, the level at Brecon Promenade was 3.7 metres and rising. The level at Abergavenny was 3.9 metres and rising. The level at Usk Town was 3.5 metres and rising slowly."

Flood alerts have been issued for the River Usk in Monmouthshire and Newport and the rivers Ebbw, Sirhowy and Lwyd.

The alert read: "At 11.45am, the level at Brecon was 3.9 metres and rising. The level at Abergavenny was 4.0 metres and rising. The level at Usk Town was 3.5 metres and rising.

"At 11.30am, the level at Cwm was rising. The level at Abertillery was rising. The level at Aberbeeg was rising. The level at Risca was rising. The level at Rhiwderin was rising. The level at Ynysddu was rising. The level at Ponthir was rising."

The Met Office had issued an amber weather warning on Friday, which was in place until 11am on Saturday.

A yellow-level weather warning – less severe than amber – remains in place for the rest of Gwent, including Newport, until 1pm on Saturday.

It warned of possible transport disruptions due to the adverse weather conditions, with possible flooding and the potential for roads to be closed.
