Sultana was jailed for 36 weeks and ordered to pay a £149 surcharge upon his release from custody.

Hewings will have to pay a £181 surcharge upon his release from prison.

They were jailed by Judge Jeremy Jenkins.

The court heard that in the early hours of October 29, 2019, Hewings drove to Rogerstone and broke in to the two houses.

A number of items were stolen, including the Astra.

Hewings drove around the area using the victims’ bank cards to buy items for himself before he was caught in the car by police.

Sultana was also in the Astra and was found with items that Hewings had stolen.

Outside the court, Detective Constable Ceri Parker, the officer in the case, said: “We welcome the sentences handed out and hope that the victims who experienced a traumatic event in finding Hewings in their home address can now move forward with their lives knowing that justice has been served.”
