DOCTORS, nurses and teachers - Britain's 'key workers' - who usually rely on public transport to get to work might be looking at alternative travel options during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

If you need to temporarily borrow a car in order to safely get to where you need to go, it's important to make sure you are fully insured to drive it.

Now, temporary insurance provider, Veygo, is currently offering NHS staff a 75 per cent discount on temporary car insurance policies.

The idea is that those who need to use someone else's car, or insure their own vehicle for a set period of time in order to continue working during the coronavirus outbreak, are able to get to work safely.

Any NHS staff member is eligible

With some public transport services being reduced, and others cancelled altogether, Veygo has introduced the discount for NHS staff to ensure they can still provide care during the pandemic.

Any NHS staff member applying for temporary car insurance cover is currently eligible for the discount, as long as they have photo proof of their NHS badge.

Jean-Baptiste Limare, CEO of Veygo said: “As a nation we are indebted to the amazing frontline NHS staff working tirelessly round the clock to care for the country as we fight the coronavirus.

“To help ease any concerns over getting to and from work we are offering a 75 per cent discount on our temporary car insurance policies. In the event public transport is limited, we want to ensure NHS staff can get to work safely.

"This may mean borrowing a car, car sharing with a colleague and sharing driving duties or driving to work in your own car. Our policies offer the protection for these unexpected circumstances, so they travel with peace of mind that themselves, their vehicle and other road users are covered."

What is the small print?

Veygo’s temporary insurance options can cover drivers from between one hour and up to 30 days, with instant cover available following a quote process online.

NHS staff wishing to take advantage of the offer should first take out the policy they need. They can then email a copy of their NHS staff badge to contact@veygo.com, along with their insurance policy number to arrange a 75 per cent refund on the policy cost.

Unfortunately, this offer doesn’t guarantee that NHS staff will be eligible for cover with Veygo. For example, if they have claims, convictions or a powerful car, they may not be able to take out a policy.
