A NATIONAL supermarket chain is offering a announcing a 10 per cent discount on shopping for all NHS workers to support them through the coronavirus pandemic.
The 10 per cent discount is being offered by Morrisons and comes into effect from Thursday.
The supermarket chain is also today launching a new dedicated telesales shopping service aimed specifically at helping to ensure vulnerable and elderly people can get the groceries they need.
Morrisons says its 10 per cent discount offer for NHS staff is a 'thank you' to the 1.5 million health service workers. The offer will last until July 12, when it will be reviewed.
“This discount is our thank you to all those working in the National Health Service at this very difficult time. We are giving them our full support and gratitude as they continue to care for and support the nation during the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Morrisons chief executive David Potts.
NHS staff can present their valid ID card from Thursday this week to receive a 10 per cent discount on their shopping in all Morrisons stores.

Morrisons says too that it has received many calls from customers who are self-isolating, elderly, vulnerable and not able to visit a shop. Some have little food in their store cupboard and are worried about how they will stock up when demand for home deliveries has been high and some have never used online ordering.
These customers will be able to place orders with Morrisons over the phone and the delivery will be made the following day by a store colleague from their local store.
Customers who wish to place an order should phone 0345 611 6111 and select option five.
These aforementioned measures are the latest to be introduced by Morrisons as the UK continues to battle the coronavirus. Others include:
● NHS Shopping Hour - To make sure NHS staff can get hold of the groceries they need, Morrisons have also introduced an NHS hour at the beginning of every day from 6-7am, and 9-9.30am on Sundays.
● NHS Food Boxes - Morrisons launched a click and collect food box service from hospital car parks to give NHS staff easy access to essential groceries. The click and collect site within hospital car parks makes it easy for staff to pick up their groceries after their shift has ended. It will be available in 22 hospitals this week with more to come
