A GROUP of postal delivery staff are continuing to delight residents on their routes - by dressing up each week.
The posties - based at Pontypool sorting office - began to dress up on Fridays to do their rounds and raise money for the Noddfa Church in Abersychan after a break-in two weeks ago.

Last Friday, May 23, the group raised a total of £1,601 for Guide Dogs for the Blind as superheroes, cheerleaders, hot dogs, Snow White, and Goofy, and even a mayor delivered post throughout Blaenavon and Griffithstown.

The idea came from new manager at the office Graham Wilkes who wanted to boost morale. He said: “I wanted to boost morale by dressing up on a Friday and to raise money for a good cause.

“Each week the team vote on the cause, the first week it was Nodffa Church after the break in and we raised £300. Last week it was Guide Dogs for the Blind and we raised £1,601.
“This week it will be for St John’s Ambulance.”

Steve Zafirou as a mayor
One of the postmen who took part was Steve Zafirou who covers Griffithstown. He suggested Guide Dogs for the Blind as there are a couple of people on his round who train guide dogs and single-handedly raised £750 himself.
Mr Zafirou said: “The amazing people of Griffithstown helped to raise so much and it is an honour to deliver to them. I think the guide dogs get overlooked.”
Mr Wilkes said that they currently have 60 per cent of staff joining in each week - including the managers and hope that it brings a smile to the faces of residents each week.
