AN INCREDIBLY rare Olympic fifty pence found on a beach has been sold for £10,000 – days after being listed on eBay.
The coin – which features wavy lines across a swimmer’s face – entered circulation nine years ago to mark the London 2012 Olympic Games.
It was placed online in May, with a starting bit of £10.
But it soon saw 68 bids, resulting in the seller taking home £10,101.
Writing on eBay, the seller said: “I have this coin to sell. I found it with my metal detector by the beach.
“The coin has waterlines on face. I found out this coin was very rare when I went into the internet to do my research.”

Only 600 of the Aquatic 50 pence coins were issued with the water horizontal lines covering the swimmer’s face.
It was soon change to have no water lines.
If you have any Olympic 50 pence coins at home, it’s worth checking if you have one with water lines across the swimmer’s face.
