FIVE journalism jobs are available in South Wales.

Newsquest, which runs the South Wales Argus and The National, as well as a number of other papers including the Monmouthshire and Pontypool Free Press titles, the Barry and District News, and the Penarth Times, is looking to add five new journalists to its team.

The recruitment drive, which includes 50 jobs across the UK, is part of a new investment in local journalism worth £1.5 million per year.

Group editor Gavin Thompson welcomed the news.

"There are some brilliant jobs going across Newsquest now, with another 50 announced today," he said.

"The best ones are in Wales though. Let me talk you through them and see which one is right for you.

"We need a senior reporter for The National, perfect for an old school (in a good way) journo who wants to join our mission to be a national news service for all of Wales, find exclusives, write serious news and features.

"Meanwhile at the cutting edge of digital we want an SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) journalist to work on our sites across Wales.

"It is perfect for someone who loves to spot a trend and react quickly or write proactive content that readers will be searching for.

"We need a trainee reporter for the South Wales Argus.

"A role ideal for someone with their diploma looking to start their career as part of a lovely and forward thinking team in the supportive surrounds of a smart new newsroom in Newport.

"Also in Newport we're looking for a new digital reporter. Someone with an eye for a story that will grab readers' attention, who will get to know our city and unearth the many untold stories in a digital first way and who is skilled in social media.

"Finally, there's still time to apply for the print content editor role The National, a four-day-week role to produce the weekly paper and set the agenda for its content, working with our journalists and alongside our digital team.

"This is a great time to join Newsquest, as we invest in our newsrooms. We'll support and enable you to produce brilliant journalism."
