DETECTIVES are still hunting two people in connection with an alleged murder after a fatally injured man was taken to Newport's Royal Gwent Hospital.

The investigation into the alleged murder of Vietnamese national Tran Nguyen, 44, in November 2006 is still under way, but officers say they have made significant inroads into the complex case.

Gwent Police say they have now identified all the individuals they want to speak to in connection with the case.

Seven men have been charged with murder and one woman is accused of perverting the course of justice.

But police are still aiming to speak to two Vietnamese men.

One is Tu Minh Le, who is about 5ft 8in tall with short dark spiked hair and has a distinctive tattoo on his left lower forearm which says 22-7 with 1973 underneath.

Police are trawling Eastern Europe in their search for the pair. A £10,000 reward was offered in connection with the investigation on a Crimewatch UK programme in June.

Inquiries took place in recent months in Germany, the Czech Republic and Vietnam.

Investigations are still ongoing as to whether other people are connected with the death last November.

The complex case has been under investigation for more than a year, and one issue police faced was the fear that potential witnesses would not come forward because they were living illegally in the UK.

Police say Nguyen himself, who was also known as Quang Duong Tran, was an illegal immigrant who left a wife and two children in Vietnam and was sending money home.

It is hoped the case will be brought to trial in the spring of this year, but with ten potential defendants, many requiring translators, it is clear that the police, CPS and courts face a number of logistical challenges in bringing this about.
