On Christmas Eve in Grosmont village the church bells were heard for the first time in many years. Four of the new Skenfrith band of ringers went up to Grosmont to join three Grosmont ringers; they rang for half an hour before the service started at 11.30pm. They then hurried home to get all the Christmas jobs done before ringing the Skenfrith bells for the Christmas morning service. This too was a first - the newly restored bells were rung at the rededication ceremony in January of this year (2007) and so had not been heard at Christmas time for about 30 years.
Skenfrith Carol service held on Friday 23rd November was the last of the series Skenfrith 800 services held to recognize 800 years of worship in Skenfrith. The bells rang from 5.30 to 6.00 pm. The large congregation enjoyed singing the carols - which were interspersed with readings telling the familiar Christmas story. After the service, cups of tea and light refreshments were served at the back of the church.
