A NEWPORT County fan who was ejected from an away game for throwing a bottle on the pitch was banned from Spytty Park for his actions.

The fan was kicked out of Dorchester Town's the Avenue Stadium during the Exiles clash with the Magpies on December 29.

The supporter was removed from the ground by stewards after he was spotted throwing an empty drinks bottle onto the pitch during County's 3-2 win.

Geoff Claridge, safety officer at Dorchester Town, said the fan will receive a lifetime ban from the Avenue Stadium and the matter has been reported to the police.

He will also be banned from Spytty Park for the "foreseeable future" said Rob Santwris, safety officer and a director at County, who added that County fans were "instrumental" in helping stewards identify the offender.

He said: "300 fans went and 299 behaved themselves impeccably, they were a credit to the club for standing up to it. Our fans have been excellent this season and helped point out the culprit.

"I spoke with officials at our club and it was dealt with by 8.00pm on Saturday night, a letter will be going out explaining the reasons he won't be welcome at our club."

Mr Claridge said: "We're a family club and we treat everybody exactly the same, even if it was a Dorchester supporter it would be exactly the same.

"The rest of the Newport supporters I can take my hat off to and say you've done your club proud, they were absolutely superb and well mannered."

Dorset Police confirmed a 41-year-old man was ejected from the stadium following the incident and the matter was reported to them, but the man was not arrested.
