A HEROIN addict stole six pairs of jeans worth £210 from Newport Marks and Spencer, a court heard.
Gareth Rogers, 37 of Pentwyn Terrace, Crumlin, appeared at Newport Magistrates Court yesterday.
He pleaded guilty to the theft, which took place on November 25.
Magistrates ordered he pay a £100 fine, £43 costs and £15 victim surcharge.
Catherine Yardley, prosecuting, said: "Officers were called to Corn Street and found two people with three pairs of jeans each.
"They had clearly been stolen as the tags were still on.
"The defendant was drug tested and was positive for opiates."
David Coles, mitigating, said: "My client has struggled for some time with addictions.
"Just before Christmas he got back on his methadone script which has clearly stabilised his problems."
