TWO refugee dogs, rescued from the threat of being shot on the streets of Spain, are still in need of a new home in Newport.

Just before Christmas the Argus reported on the story of Rufus and Benji, 14-month-old cross terriers, found living rough in Seville by Frieda Bartlett an ex-pat from South Wales.

The Bridgend retiree who took them into her Spanish home met with Lynn Marasco, receptionist for Summerhill Vets, Newport, and arranged for the dogs to be re-housed here.

After putting an appeal for a new home in the paper the vets thought they had found the pair a new home, but unfortunately it fell through at the last minute.

Miss Marasco said: "We had a lot of responses, but mainly from people who wanted to home them individually.

"We did have a wonderful home set up for them but it fell through, so if there is anyone out there who can take them both please get in touch."

The well-travelled dogs have full passports and are microchipped, with all their necessary vaccinations.

Rufus is black and tan with short hair while Benji is beige and white and shaggy haired.
