DIDN'T SHE COOK WELL?!: When six-year-old Clare Bond nominated her mum for a job at Penygarn Infants School, she never thought that 30 years later she would still be working there.

Now, Jean Roderick has decided to retire as cook at the school.

Ms Roderick, 61, who has been head cook for the last 11 years, said: "Clare was a pupil at the school, and thought I would be perfect for the role. I'm very grateful for what she did."

"I made the Christmas dinner a little extra special this year, to say goodbye to the children.

"Seeing them always made my day - I will miss them massively. It's been lovely watching them grow up and then have children of their own at the school.

"Now that I'm retired, I will enjoy seeing more of my grandchildren, and I'll be taking it easy and going on lots of holidays.

"I have made some great friends over the years and we will never lose touch.

"Everyone at Penygarn Infants gave me a really good send-off."
