FOUR areas of Gwent have Covid rates among the worst in Wales.

That includes three areas of Newport with case rates in the top ten per cent in the country.

The highest Covid rate in Gwent is found in Maindee, where 23 new coroanvirus cases were recorded in the last seven days.

In the period between July 29 and August 4, the Covid rate in Maindee stands at 287.9.

Two other areas of Newport also lie above the 219.9 threshold to place them in the top ten per cent in Wales.

Lawrence Hill has a rate of 241.6 cases per 100,000 residents, and Lliswerry & Uskmouth has a rate of 233.4 cases per 100,000 residents.

New Inn, in Torfaen, also ranked in the top ten per cent of rates across the country.

The 16 new cases in the seven day period gave the area a Covid rate of 270.6, the second highest in Gwent.

Two areas of Monmouthshire also had rates north of 200, though didn't fall into the top tier of rates in Wales.

The rate in Magor & Rogiet stood at 204, and the rate in Caldicot North & Caerwent is 200.
