NEWPORT'S next mayor will be Bettws councillor Noel Trigg if he retains his seat in the fortcoming local elections.
His nomination was overwhelmingly supported by the full council yesterday.
Councillor Trigg, a Newport-born former Army boxer, is due to take over from Councillor Allan Morris in May.
The local council elections take place earlier that month.
