AFTER suffering first hand as a result of breast cancer, a Newport mother-of-two has helped to organise a charity event to help prevent others from going through her own gruelling ordeal.
Heidi Stockton, 32, was diagnosed with breast cancer last March after discovering a lump in her breasts.
Mrs Stockton underwent major surgery to remove the lump in April and endured bouts of chemotherapy for weeks after.
Now, despite still not receiving the all clear, she has helped to organise a fundraising event for Breast Cancer Research at the Parc y Prior pub in Malpas.
"I was only 31 and I have two small children. I was scared ," she said.
"There were times during the chemotherapy that made me very poorly and got me thinking 'no more' - but because I had the children I stayed strong."
Mrs Stockton also thanked staff at Malpas Park Primary School where her two children, Luke, 8, and Sophie, 6, attend.
"The staff and parents were fantastic with the children. They helped them so much and they never lied to them," seh said.
Mrs Stockton has worked at the Parc y Prior pub, Almond Drive, Malpas, since September 2007 and suggested a charity event to her fellow workers.
"I think there are a few people who work there that have been touched by cancer," she said.
The fundraising night at the Parc y Prior pub will take place on Friday, February 1.
Events at the pub will include a live band and raffle and entry will be free.
