ONE area of Newport has one of the worst Covid rates in Wales, at more than 400 per 100,000 people.
There have been 24 new cases recorded in Lawrence Hill over the seven days between August 5 and 11, giving it a Covid rate of 414.2 cases per 100,000.
That is the highest in Newport, and Gwent, and one of the highest across the country.
It is one of five places across Newport, and eight places across Gwent, with Covid rates in the top ten per cent in the country.
Ringland (372.9), Ridgeway & Glasllwch (330.2), Lliswerry & Uskmouth (328.5), and Pill & Docks (294.0) in Newport were all among the highest rates in Wales.
Tredegar & Georgetown, in Blaenau Gwent, New Tredegar & Darran Valley, in Caerphilly, and New Inn, in Torfaen, also ranked among the worst Covid rates in the country.
There were 21 areas of Gwent with rates north of 200 cases per 100,000 people over the seven day period between August 5 and 11.

- Rassau and Beaufort: ten new cases; a rate of 142.0 per 100,000 people (up from four new cases).
- Brynmawr: five new cases; a rate of 90.1 per 100,000 people (up from fewer than two new cases).
- Blaina and Nantyglo: nine new cases; a rate of 94.9 per 100,000 people (down from ten new cases).
- Ebbw Vale North and Glyncoed: eight new cases; a rate of 102.1 per 100,000 people (up from six new cases).
- Ebbw Vale South and Cwm: 17 new cases; a rate of 200.4 per 100,000 people (up from seven new cases).
- Tredegar and Georgetown: 26 new cases; a rate of 311.3 per 100,000 people (up from ten new cases).
- Abertillery North and Cwmtillery: 15 new cases; a rate of 166.6 per 100,000 people (up from seven new cases).
- Abertillery South and Llanhilleth: eight new cases; a rate of 113.9 per 100,000 people (up from six new cases).
Caerphilly
- Rhymney, Pontlottyn and Abertysswg: 17 new cases; a rate of 191.4 per 100,000 people (up from eight new cases).
- New Tredegar and Darran Valley: 21 new cases; a rate of 286.6 per 100,000 people (up from eight new cases).
- North Blackwood, Argoed and Markham: fewer than two new cases; a rate of fewer than 36 per 100,000 people (down from five new cases).
- Aberbargoed and Gilfach: six new cases; a rate of 98.8 per 100,000 people (down from eight new cases).
- Bargoed: eight new cases; a rate of 129.6 per 100,000 people (up from seven new cases).
- St Cattwg: nine new cases; a rate of 118.3 per 100,000 people (up from four new cases).
- Pengam and Cefn Fforest: three new cases; a rate of 38.7 per 100,000 people (down from six new cases).
- Blackwood: seven new cases; a rate of 95.2 per 100,000 people (down from 11 new cases).
- Oakdale and Pentwyn: 11 new cases; a rate of 113.4 per 100,000 people (down from 13 new cases).
- Newbridge: eight new cases; a rate of 119.6 per 100,000 people (down from 13 new cases).
