At the annual Christmas Dinner of Usk Civic Society, Vice-Chairman Peter Rennie made an unexpected award to the society's President, Lord Raglan. Two small plaques in stainless steel had been made to commemorate the gift from the Society Committee of two flowering crab apple trees that were planted in his garden on Lord Raglan's 80th birthday earlier in 2007.
Thanking the Society for its gifts, Lord Raglan said that he was proud to be associated with, and to support, the Civic Society because of its benefits to the town and area around Usk. He added that, along with its annual awards to schemes and projects which have enhanced the community, the Society's continued concern for the town's heritage helps to create interest and increased awareness within the local community
