Anyone who shops regularly in Usk will be aware of the diminutive figure of Mrs. June Morgan, standing outside the Spar shop throughout the weeks leading up to Armistice Day, selling poppies.
Whatever the weather, June is there, with a smile and a thank you' to everyone who buys a poppy. Born and brought up in Usk, she has been a stalwart collector for the annual Poppy Appeal for more than 20 years.
This year the Poppy Appeal in Usk, co-ordinated by Major Robin Medley, raised almost £6,000, of which June collected a record £1,700.
Diane Richards, secretary of the Usk and District British Legion Club in Usk said, "Year in, year out, June quietly gets on with the task of selling poppies. It's an amazing commitment, and we are all very proud and privileged to have her on the team."
