TWO teenage charity volunteers will meet the Prime Minister at a special reception in Downing Street next week.

Caitlin Baglow, 14, from Penrhiw Road, Risca, and Bethan Trevett, 17, of Ty-Asaf Crescent, Pontymister, will meet Gordon Brown at the event on Wednesday, which aims to bring together examples of the very best of young people across the UK.

The two girls are currently raising funds to do charity work at a Tanzanian Aids orphanage this summer.

Word of the two girls' mission reached the Prime Minister via Islwyn MP Don Touhig, after Caitlin approached him in December.

He said: "She emailed me to tell me what she was doing and I forwarded her email, along with a copy of the Argus article to No 10."

Yesterday their invitations to the reception were confirmed.

Caitlin said: "It's really exciting. It's going to be a great opportunity."

Bethan added: "The first I knew was Caitlin came running in screaming 'We're going to meet Gordon Brown'.

"It's a real honour."

The pair plan to raise £6,000 between them by this summer, for what they call Project Tumaini (Project Hope in Swahili).

Mr Touhig said: "This is a splendid example of two young people making a positive contribution to humanity."

Other plans include a fundraising concert tomorrow night at Risca Rugby Club, featuring local bands. Tickets cost £4.50 on the door.

The girls have also set up a MySpace to help spread the word at www.myspace.com/project_tumaini.
