RESIDENTS in a Newport neighbourhood witnesses a shocking sight over the weekend as a car crashed through railings into a children’s playground.
Saturday evening (September 18), a vehicle is believed to have smashed through a metal railing, ending up inside the playground, which is located in the Pill area of the city.
It appears as though the motor came through Tredegar Street, near to the Asda superstore, before coming to a halt inside the play area off Ruperra Street.
At this time, it is not clear how or why this incident occurred.
Fortunately, it is believed that the playground was empty when the incident took place, and as such, it is not thought that there were any injuries.
However, pictures on social media show a car having ended up inside the playground, which is entirely bordered by railings.

It is believed that officers from Gwent Police have since been in the neighbourhood, conducting enquiries into this incident.
Today (Sunday, September 19), the vehicle has been removed from the park, but signs of its presence remain.
Bright orange barriers have been placed where the original fence was destroyed, as a result of the impact with the car.

It also appears as though sawdust has been placed on the ground inside the playground.
There is some suggestion that this was to mop up any residual oil spillage from the car – though this is yet to be confirmed.
The Argus has contacted Gwent Police for further information.
