The emergency services were called to the Pill area of the city on Saturday evening, having received reports of an altercation between two people.
According to Gwent Police, the altercation is alleged to have taken place on Ruperra Street at around 6.10pm (Saturday, September 18).
On arrival, officers from the force were said to have found a car which had reportedly been driven into the children’s playground which is located in between Ruperra Street and West Market Street/Tredegar Street.

Police have confirmed that a 40-year-old man has been arrested following the incident.
The man, from Newport, was arrested on suspicion of common assault and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
He has since received a conditional caution for the possession of a bladed article in a public place, and has been released without charge for the common assault.
Shortly after the incident, the vehicle was removed from the playground.
However, orange barriers have been placed, covering the gap where the vehicle is alleged to have entered the park.
