Martyn Haftowski, operations manager at Cwmbran Centre, said: “Our aim is to embed sustainable activity into everything we do.
“Sustainability does not just involve minimising consumption of utilities or raw materials but how we engender sustainability within working partnerships.
“We have achieved this by engaging with the wider community by education, informing and demonstrating.”
Cwmbran Centre competed against more than 500 other nominations in the International Green Apple Awards, and will be presented with their trophy and certificate at a ceremony in the Houses of Parliament on November 15.
The centre has now been invited to accept Green World Ambassador status and have its winning paper published in The Green Book so that others around the world can follow its lead.
This will also entitle them to represent Wales in the Green World Environment Awards.
