SOUTH Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they extinguished a fire late last night and said it may have been set alight deliberately.
A fire crew from Malpas attended a fire at 10.45pm on Monday, September 20, on Penny Crescent.
Locals reported that a helicopter was also hovering quite low overhead, though South Wales Fire and Rescue did not confirm this.

It took just eight minutes for the fire crew to extinguish the blaze, with the stop message being received at 10.53pm
It is unclear whether or not the fire occurred at a residential building.
Residents stated that the fire was at the nearby park, though the fire service did not confirm if this was true.
No injuries have been reported.
A spokeswoman from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "At approximately 10.45pm on Monday the 20th of September, 2021, we received reports of a fire in Penny Crescent, Newport.
"Crews from Malpas attended the scene and extinguished the fire.
"A stop message was received at approximately 10:53pm.
"The supposed cause is suspected to be deliberate."
