A PLASTICS recycling project in Torfaen has been temporarily suspended following the fire at Capital Valley Plastics earlier this month.
The company have been working with Torfaen council on a project to recycle stretchy plastics – such as plastic bags, bubble wrap and food wrappers – which would otherwise go to landfill.

The stretchy plastics are instead made into products used in the building industry.
Since the project began in 2019, 26 tons of stretchy plastic has been recycled.
As a result of the fire, the following collection points have been suspended temporarily:
- Capital Valley Plastics, Kays and Kears site
- Torfaen council offices
- Artie Craftie, Blaenavon Post Office
- Capital Valley Plastics, Cwmavon Road
- Ysgol Bryn Onnen Primary School
- Canine Corner, Croesiceiliog
- Able Radio
- Market Village, Cwmbran town centre
- Talywain Post Office
- Blaenavon RFC
- Zero Waste Torfaen
- My local convenience stores - Edlogan Square
- The Costar Partnership
- Torfaen Household Waste Recycling Centre
Councillor Mandy Owen, Torfaen council’s executive member for environment, said: “Our thoughts go out to Capital Valley Plastics and their employees who have been affected by this terrible incident.
“The partnership between Torfaen Council and Capital Valleys Plastics to reduce the amount on non-recyclable plastic going to landfill has been very successful and we look forward to continuing to work with them in the future.”
Daisy Edwards, sustainability project manager, said: “We are overwhelmed with all the well wishes and support we have received in the last week since the devastating fire at our site on Kays and Kears industrial estate.
“We want to thank everyone for their support and patience during these difficult times.
“We are keen to recommence the recycling scheme as soon as possible and will strive to get back to doing what we love which is helping to protect our environment by recycling stretchy plastic.”
