A WELSH school has won a city-wide competition to find the best primary school carol choir.
Ysgol Gymraeg Casnewydd, of Hartridge, impressed the judges with three Welsh language carols and one from Zambia.
Pupils were presented with a trophy and a certificate from the mayor on Friday morning.
Head Mrs Gwenda Roberts said 30 pupils aged between eight and 11 from the school took part.
She added: "We're thrilled to have won.
"Seeing as we didn't hear the other groups we weren't expecting to win."
The school competes in national Welsh choral competitions and takes part in the National Eisteddfod.
Ten schools took part in the competition, which was organised by Newport Market between December 3 and 7.
All choirs were judged by official Newport Market Carol Competition adjudicator Huw Davies.
This year was the third year of the competition, which has been won by Durham Road Junior School for the last two years.
