NEW plans to build more than 100 homes in Newport city centre have been revealed.
If approved, 122 homes will be built on the riverfront between the Pill and city centre areas of the city.
Of these, 82 will be earmarked for affordable housing, with the other 40 set to be sold on the open market.
The application has been submitted to Newport City Council for their consideration by Newport City Homes and the Jehu Group.
According to planning documents, the new housing development would be build on land next to the Newport Student Village at Endeavour House, on Usk Way.

Currently, the land is being used as a car park.
The affordable housing portion of the scheme will contain 10 three-bedroom affordable maisonettes, 37 two-bedroom apartments, and 35 one-bedroom flats.
Meanwhile, the open market properties would include five one bedroom and 35 two-bedroom flats.
In addition, plans also show that part of the land would be used for a retail unit, a café, and bicycle storage.

As for parking, the current proposal allows for 67 car parking spaces – 66 for residents, and one for the commercial premises.
This accounts for 0.54 spaces per residential unit.
According to planning regulations, city centre projects are required to provide between 0.5-1 spaces per unit.
There is also set to be bicycle storage for 110 bikes on site.
The proposed development is located in the Pill ward of the city, though it is a stone’s throw from the city centre.
It is estimated that it is just 500 metres away from Friars Walk.
The plot runs alongside Usk Way on the one side, and the River Usk on the other.
At this time, it is used as a mix of short and long stay parking, with space for 258 vehicles.
Prior to this, the site was home to a vehicle scrap yard.
As the current planning application has yet to be determined by the council, it is not known when a decision might be made – and, if approved, when work might start.
However, the application can be viewed and commented upon online, here.
