NATIONAL Rail have said that trains between Newport and Cardiff Central are either delayed or cancelled.

The issue was first reported at 6.24pm today and disruptions are expected to continue until 10pm.

A fault with the signalling system near Cardiff is the cause of the issue.

As a result, some trains may terminate at Newport instead of going on to Cardiff Central as originally planned.

The routes affected are:

  • CrossCountry between Cardiff Central and Nottingham
  • Great Western Railway between Cardiff Central and  Portsmouth Harbour / Penzance, and between Carmarthen and London Paddington
  • Transport for Wales between Cardiff Central and Chester / Holyhead, and between Milford Haven and Manchester Piccadilly, and between Maested and Cheltenham Spa, and also between Llanelli and Chester

People travelling on these routes may be entitled to compensation if their journey is affected.

To claim compensation, travellers must keep their train ticket and make a note of the journey before contacting National Rail.
