TRIBUTES have been paid to a “devoted wife, mother and grandmother” who died in a four-car crash on a busy Gwent road last week.
Retired teacher Norma Ann Morgan from Llanfoist was travelling as a passenger in a grey Peugeot 508 at the time of the collision on the A472 in Hafodyrynys.
The 75-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 77-year-old man from the Llanfoist area, who was driving the Peugeot, is receiving treatment at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff after sustaining injuries to his arm and back. His condition is stable.
Paying tribute to Ms Morgan, her family have released a statement, saying: “Norma was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be sorely missed by our family and all who knew her.
“This has left an enormous void within our family and we’re trying to come to terms with the sudden loss.
“A retired teacher at Pontypool’s West Monmouth School, she had recently celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary with her husband.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the emergency services for their valiant efforts at the scene of this tragic incident, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of all those involved.”
The family is currently being supported by specialist officers, and have requested privacy at this time.

What happened in the collision?
The emergency services were called to a road traffic collision on the A472 in Hafodyrynys at around 12.35pm on Thursday, September 23.
The collision involved four cars – a white Nissan Juke, a grey Peugeot 508, a silver Vauxhall Insignia and a Ford Focus which is also a marked police car.
Two Gwent Police officers – a police constable and a community support officer – were travelling in the police car. Both were taken to the University Hospital of Wales for treatment.
The police constable has been discharged but the community support officer remains in hospital after sustaining life-changing injuries and her condition is stable.
Two passengers travelling in the Nissan Juke, a 27-year-old woman and a two-year-old girl from the Blaina area, attended the Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran as a precaution for minor injuries.
A passenger in the Vauxhall, a 54-year-old woman from the Markham area, received treatment at the scene from paramedics.

Witness appeal
Enquiries are ongoing and Gwent Police are asking anyone who was travelling on the A472 in Hafodyrynys between 12.20pm and 12.50pm to get in touch.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, who has not yet spoken with officers, is asked to get in contact.
Any motorists who may have dashcam or CCTV footage of the area at the time of the collision is also urged to come forward.
