POLICE, fire and ambulance crews launched a search of the canal in Newport this morning after reports that a man was seen in the water.
Gwent Police said tonight that the man was found on the side of the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal bank in the Malpas area at around 11.20am.
He was pulled from the bank by rope and taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital where he was treated for hypothermia and minor injuries from a fall.
It is not know how the man ended up in the canal.
