Met Office issue flood warning in Wales - flood warning and alerts still in place

A weather warning was in place across much of Wales yesterday, with the Met Office warning that flooding was possible.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said they were extremely busy until the early hours of the morning, responding to more than 200 calls.

There were incidents at Kidwelly, Neath, Pyle, Porth and Kenfig Hill, and in some cases people were trapped in cars due to the flooding.

Speaking to BBC Radio Wales Breakfast, Shawn Moody, from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said that care home residents had to be removed from the homes in some areas.

A flood warning remains in place in South Wales for the River Ely at Peterston Super Ely.

There are also three flood alerts in the south, with Natural Resource Wales publishing alerts on the Rivers Llynfi and Ogmore, the River Ewenny and Vale of Glamorgan west, and the River Ely.

However, it is not just South Wales that is impacted.

Flood alerts are in place across West Wales as well.

Dyfed-Powys Police have warned of “large amount of standing water on the stretch of road between Gumfreston and Carew.”

They asked drivers to avoid the area.

Natural Resources Wales have flood alerts in place around Llanelli, Swansea, Neath, the Tawe, the Loughour and the Amman.
