STAFF at a Newport charity have been awarded for their efforts throughout the Covid pandemic.

Newport Mayor, Cllr David Williams, council leader Cllr Jane Mudd, and Ruth Jones MP recently presented awards at Llanhennock Lodge to disability charity Leonard Cheshire’s staff to recognise their efforts during a challenging time.

Llanhennock Lodge’s chef, Dale Cook, won the award for best member of the ancillary team.

Staff were awarded trophies and flowers to recognise their achievements, and a coffee hamper and brand-new coffee machine were awarded to all staff for their break room.

Mr Cook said: “It was lovely to win an award and to feel valued in your job, I’m really happy. I have worked in the kitchen for the past 16 years, and I’m loving the celebrations and gives a great boost to the home.”

Cllr Williams said: “I’m very impressed with the dedication of the staff: it’s a job that I think most people couldn’t do.

“The care and dedication of the staff and volunteers, and the enthusiasm they bring, is wonderful to see.”

Mrs Jones added: “It’s been so lovely to come out to Llanhennock Lodge to thank the staff for their sterling work during the pandemic.

“It’s been great to see that they have been given awards for their dedication to duty and going the extra mile. Hopefully they feel they have been acknowledged as true heroes.”

The fundraising efforts of staff and residents was also celebrated, having recently taken part in a virtual cycling challenge, travelling more than 120 miles in six hours to raise money for disabled people across Wales.
