RESIDENTS are being encouraged to take a more active role in enhancing the appearance of their community with the support of Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs).

Officers for Trevethin, Penygarn and St Cadoc's are working with members of the community and Torfaen Youth Service Detach-ed Team to conduct targeted clean up days in residential, retail and recreational areas.

Those who live locally are being encouraged to look after their environment by joining in the litter picking days. The aim is to create a more pleasant environment for those who live, work and visit in the area.

PCSO Jordan Williams said litter has been identified as a key priority by residents through the regular Partnership and Communities Together (PACT) meetings which are held in the area. In response to this PCSO officers are holding monthly clean up days and are inviting anyone who wants to get involved to join them.

Officer Williams said: "Litter is a problem that can be easily rectified if everyone takes personal responsibility for keeping their neighbourhoods clean and tidy. We hope by working with the council and local residents we can not only engage with the local community but also improve the overall physical appearance of the targeted areas."
