A NEW research centre for counselling has been launched at the University of Wales, Newport.
Part of the school of health and social sciences, the centre aims to act as a focal point for research links within the South Wales counselling community.
The Newport Centre for Counselling Research conducts work on counselling families, asylum seekers and the use of skills in helping people cope with bereavement and loss, as well as other topics.
In addition, the team has also developed interactive tools for counsellors, including a series of DVDs.
Head of school Dr Hilary Matheson said: "The centre follows a rich tradition of research within the school and builds on the existing work being undertaken by the team."
