NEWPORT will soon be home to Wales' largest mud-hut after funding was secured from the city council.
£16,000 was made available for the community facility in Barrackswood that will serve as an eco-classroom for both children and adults.
The green cob-shelter - based on an ancient design - will be made from mud and straw and it is expected to be completed by the end of March.
The money was provided by Newport City Council's Community Grants Scheme and is now in the hands of Charter Housing, a member of the Seren Group.
Julia Crosbie, a board member of Charter Housing, and resident of Barrackswood, said: "The community garden is a project that will benefit everyone living in the area.
"We chose a cob shelter as we wanted something different, that was environmentally friendly and in keeping with the surrounding woodland."
