TORRENTIAL rain brought flooding overnight and early this morning to five homes in Abergavenny in the Station Road area.
In the Coach House complex off Station Road three homes are flooded, water can be seen pouring out under the front door.
South Wales Fire Service Abergavenny crew manager Mark Taylor said a damaged culvert from Station Road has caused the flood.
He said the owners are away at one of the houses from which water can be seen gushing under the front door.
Crews are currently pumping from another house to stop the water rising any further and an engine is pumping water from the courtyard in front of the houses.
Mr Taylor said: "As well as the damaged culvert on Station Road there's water coming from another drainage site on the other side of the houses which is adding to the problem.
Unfortunately the forecast is not good, it looks like more heavy rain and it's the sheer volume that has caused this."
Mr Taylors said the owners of two of the affected homes in the Coach House had been located, one was still unaware water was pouring into their homes.
Two other houses further down Station Road have been affected.
At the moment the water has reached the basement level and has not got as far as the first floor.
Firefighters are expected to be on the scene for the next few hours trying to stem the flow.
Firefighters are piling sandbags at various strategic points to try and stop further flooding.
