A NEW nature-friendly play park has opened in Monmouth as part of a £400,000 council project.
The new play park, in Chippenham Fields, opened on Monday.
It follows years of planning by Monmouthshire County Council and partners.
The play area has been designed as part of the council’s move away from traditional metal equipment to the use of more natural products and a greater proportion of inclusive equipment for children with disabilities and other support needs.
The opening was marked by a ribbon cutting and provided families a first look at the new site and the opportunity to try out the equipment.
As well as the Chippenham Fields play area, this year the council also plans to renew the play areas at King’s Fee, Goldwire Lane and Hendre Close.
When completed, the council will have spent more than £420,000 on the various fixed play sites in Monmouth.

Initially, the council was looking to refurbish the Chippenham Fields play area in its existing location next to the A40.
However, the cabinet decided to relocate the play area away from the noise and traffic fumes.
Speaking at the official opening, cabinet member for open spaces, Cllr Jane Pratt said: “This new playground is a testament to our commitment to providing inclusive spaces that everyone can enjoy.
"It’s been wonderful seeing families and children enjoy the new equipment today.”
