THOUSANDS of pounds worth of fines have been handed out to residents from Newport and the surrounding areas who fell foul of covid restrictions.
Over the last few weeks, a number of people appeared before Newport Magistrates Court, having broken lockdown rules earlier in the year.
Here you can see who appeared before the court, what offences they have been charged with, and what punishments were handed out by magistrates.
The below appeared before magistrates between Monday, October 12 and Friday, October 22.
Kalsie Morgan, 21 of Maesglas Crescent, Newport, was ordered to pay £2,021 in a fine, costs, and a surcharge for breaching coronavirus restrictions by gathering in a private dwelling at Dewstow Street, Newport – an Alert Level 3 area of Wales, without a reasonable excuse on April 11, 2021.
Mark Anthony Humphries, 22 of Gelligaer Road, Caerphilly, was ordered to pay £2,021 in a fine, costs, and a surcharge having been found to have left his place of living without reasonable excuse while living in an Alert Level 4 area of Wales, breaching coronavirus restrictions, on March 14, 2021.
Lee David Norman, 31, of Cormorant Way, Newport was ordered to pay £1,375 in a fine, costs, and a surcharge for breaching coronavirus restrictions by gathering in a private dwelling at Cormorant Way, Newport – and Alert Level 3 area of Wales, without a reasonable excuse on May 3, 2021. The defendant’s guilty plea was taken into account when the fine was determined.
