SCOTT Rose-Marsh was enjoying his new job on Stephen Merchant's new BBC show The Outlaws, but found that acting can sometimes be more painful than expected.

Mr Rose-Marsh, 33, is an actor located in Ebbw Vale.

Despite going to the prestigious BRIT school to learn theatre at the age of 16, he has only been acting professionally for two years.

Previously he worked in a call centre in Blackwood until one night he decided he hated his job and sent an old show reel to an agency in Cardiff.

Mr Rose-Marsh has a recurring role on the new show as an enforcer for a brutal Bristol gang that terrorises the protagonists.

During one scene, he enters a house armed with a knife as one of the characters is in the process of stealing from his gang.

It sounds like a simple scene to shoot, but Mr Rose-Marsh did not account for the rainy Bristol weather to mess up his scene and injure him.

He said: "It was like the sixth or seventh take, but what happened is I ran for the door and it just started raining.

South Wales Argus:

"I slipped before I went through the door and went flying through the door.

"There was a staircase in the house on the right hand side of the house and I literally landed on my ribs on top of the staircase as I fell."

The next thing Mr Rose-Marsh knew he was one the floor in severe pain, but could hear Stephen Merchant - well-known for his work on iconic comedy series including The Office and Extras - racing towards him to check if he was okay.

Mr Rose-Marsh said: "He (Mr Merchant) was just going 'are you alright? are you sure? are you sure you're alright?'.

"I was just in so much pain honestly, I probably could have gone to hospital then.

"But I manned up and continued through and and then we spend the next five hours running around the streets of Bristol."

Luckily, Mr Rose-Marsh sustained his injury on the final day of filming before last Christmas, December 14, so it didn't disrupt production.

However, he was left in severe pain for some time and had around three months of sleepless nights.

Any sudden movement, cough or sneeze had him in agony.

However, he surprisingly could have had a much more serious injury at another point in filming.

Once scene involves Mr Rose-Marsh running down a street wielding a two foot long 'zombie' knife.

He had the option to either use the real knife or a plastic replica in the take, but rather sensibly elected to use the plastic knife.

It proved to to be a wise decision, as on the very first take of the scene Mr Rose-Marsh tripped over and fell on the knife.

Mr Rose-Marsh appears throughout the series that is written by, directed by and stars Stephen Merchant.

"He's a very quiet guy, very attentive to detail and very hands on," said Mr-Rose-Marsh about Mr Merchant.

"He's really very nice."

The Outlaws also stars American superstar Christopher Walken - but sadly Mr Rose-Marsh did not shoot any scenes with the acting legend.
