A SOUTH Wales dog rescue centre has rehomed its 100th four-legged friend – just three months after taking in its first residents.
Dogs Trust Cardiff began taking in dogs in July and has reached the milestone by finding a permanent home for chihuahuas Max and Minnie.
The pair, aged six and four respectively, were taken to the centre in September after their owners could no longer care for them.
Seven weeks later they have been given a new home with Dr David New and Dr Xianghong Wang from Somerset.
The pair were drawn to the dogs after previously taking on a pair of dogs from Dogs Trust Salisbury five years ago.
Dr New said: “Our very first dog many years ago was a street dog we took on when living in Hong Kong. He’d been treated badly and was injured when we found him but thankfully, he made a full recovery.
"We had him for 12 years and he was the one who taught us that a house really isn’t a home without a dog.
“Back in 2016, we adopted an elderly pair of Yorkshire terriers, who have now sadly passed away, from Dogs Trust Salisbury, so we always wanted to bring another rescue dog into our lives when the time was right.
"When we saw Max and Minnie were looking for a home together, we jumped at the chance to adopt another pair.
“Taking on two dogs that have lived together their whole lives is very rewarding, and, in our experience, we found that caring for two dogs is not much more effort than caring for one. They can keep each other company and play together, as we have plenty of love for the both of them.
“Max and Minnie have only been with us for a few days but have settled in really well – it’s like they’ve always been here.”

Kim Davies, deputy manager at Dogs Trust Cardiff, said: “We’re so happy for Max and Minnie. Sometimes pairs of dogs can wait a little longer to find forever homes, but they have really landed on their paws with their new owners and we know they’ll be so happy in their new forever home.
“The past few months have been incredible, and I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has supported us. From those that have rehomed dogs to everyone who has dropped off toys, treats, bedding and much more.
