A NUMBER of bus services across Newport and Gwent are set for another shake-up as a result of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Stagecoach South Wales, which operates many services across the region, has announced a spate of changes.

Starting from Sunday, November 7, bus users in Newport, Cwmbran, and Blackwood can expect to see some changes.

It comes while the bus firm continues to see disruption across the region, as industrial action by their drivers relating to pay issues continue.

For several weeks, drivers have been striking, in a bid to see an increase in their pay.

The below are the changes coming to services in our area, from Sunday, November 7.

Blackwood

Service 12: First journey towards Blackwood will run via Blackwood High Street

Cwmbran

Services 3 & 46: will serve Lion Street (for Morrisons) in Abergavenny

Service 47: will serve Lion Street (for Morrisons) in Abergavenny. The 09:10 journey from Llanellen will route around Knoll estate. Some changes to times to improve reliability.

Service 83: will use stand 5 in Abergavenny

Service X4: 07:40 journey from Brynmawr will run 5 minutes later to connect with Service 56 in Tredegar

Service X24: Evening journeys from Newport at 18:50 onwards and 18:16 from Blaenavon will serve Malpas Road and Newport Rd past Burtons Biscuits factory.

 There are also further changes set for buses in Merthyr Tydfil, and Porth areas.

What has been said about these changes?

According to Stagecoach, “The continuing Covid-19 pandemic means we are having to operate a different level of service compared to normal.

“We are working closely with the Welsh Government and local authorities to maintain the widest network of services possible within the current restrictions and will continue to monitor these services.”

Meanwhile, the bus operator has reminded its passengers that in Wales, face coverings remain mandatory on public transport, unless a person has a valid reason not to wear one.
