A HOUSE fire in Monmouth is being investigated by the police and the fire service.
The emergency services were called to a dormer bungalow in The Gardens at around 6pm last night.
Four fire engines, a 4x4 vehicle, and incident command unit all attended from South Wales Fire And Rescue, and the fire was well alight when they arrived.
Four further appliances helped tackle the blaze, two from Hereford and Worcester and two from Gloucester.
Firefighters took one and a half hours to get the fire under control but were still in attendance late last night.
The scene was closed off overnight for a joint investigation, to be carried out Gwent Police and South Wales Fire And Rescue.
A police spokesman at the scene said two men had been evacuated from the property and no-one had been injured in the fire.
He added that the cause of the blaze, which destroyed the roof of the bungalow, is currently unknown.
The bungalow is one of a number of properties located behind Haberdashers' Monmouth School for Girls.
