A WOMAN has been jailed for a month after assaulting a police officer.
Appearing at Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, November 3, Hayley Keddle – who was already in custody following the breach of a previous suspended prison sentence order for possessing a bladed article – was given an additional four-week term of imprisonment, which will be served concurrently.
The 37-year-old, of Heol-y-Ffynnon, Brecon, previously admitted assaulting PC Andrew Greensmith in Brecon on August 3 this year.
Magistrates in Merthyr on Wednesday said the offence was so serious, due to being committed on an emergency worker, that they uplifted it to a custodial sentence.
They gave Keddle credit for her guilty plea and reduced the sentence from six weeks to four, and said it would run concurrent to the term already being served. Keddle was originally jailed on August 31 for breaching her previous suspended sentence order.
Magistrates ordered no compensation be awarded to the officer, or costs, but Keddle must pay a surcharge of £128 when released from prison.
