A LORRY was involved in a collision with the central reservation on the M48 Severn Bridge this morning, closing lanes for a hours.

No injuries were reported in the collision, but it caused delays and congestion in the Chepstow area.

It occurrred at around 5am this morning with the delays lasting until at least 9am.

Lanes had to be closed on both the westbound and eastbound carriageways on the bridge.

The lanes are still closed as contractors assess the damage caused in the incident.

A spokeswoman from Avon and Somerset Police said: "Police were alerted that a lorry had been in collision with the central reservation on the M48 eastbound just before 5am today, Monday, November 8.

"No injuries were reported but there was debris across both carriageways."

A spokeswoman from Highways England said: "The vehicle has been recovered and a lane two closure is in place in both directions while an assessment of damage to the central reservation barrier is undertaken.

"We will provide an update once we have more details about the repairs work that is needed.

"Drivers are advised to keep up to date with the latest travel reports and plan their journeys."
