A SEVERELY disabled baby narrowly escaped being crushed when the pram he was in collapsed, claims his mother.
One-year-old Riley Edmunds has brain damage and Cerebal Palsy and has spend most of his short life in hospital.
His mother Kirsty Edmunds says his £300 pram "caved in" only the sixth time she used it.
Even though she bought it in July 2006 and the incident happened in October 2007 Miss Edmunds said it was "hardly used" because Riley has been in and out of hospital so often.
She said: "I was extremely frightened when it happened. If it hadn't of been for the car seat he was also in, he would have been squashed.
"It was an awful situation to be in. The suspension bar snapped and the whole pram caved in.
"I was shocked but angry at the same time. The pram should not have done this."
Miss Edmunds purchased the pram from Mothercare in Cwmbran.
She said the company had agreed to fix the pram but wanted to charge £64 for the service because it was out of guarantee.
The store gave her a loan pram to use in the meantime.
She says she's waiting for a new pram and an apology.
She added:"I am furious. The pram must have had a fault."
"Riley doesn't get out very often as he is not very confident being around lots of people.
"We were having a nice day out shopping until his pram collapsed."
"The very least they should do is replace the pram and apologise."
The Argus approached Mothercare, but they refused to comment.
