VIDEO footage recorded in a Newport garden has captured by chance the noise of an apparent explosion in the city.

Intrigue has surrounded the explosions, which have been reported to the Argus as happening on more than one occasion yesterday.

One "enormous" blast was heard in the Allt-Yr-Yn area at around 5am.

The explosion was originally thought to have been at a property in Coriander Close.

South Wales Argus:

A spokesperson from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "At approximately 5:42am on Wednesday, November 10,we received reports of a suspected explosion and smoke in the area near Coriander Close in Allt-yr-yn, Newport.

"A crew from Malpas Station attended the incident but no action was undertaken.

"A stop message was received at approximately 6:02am."

David Jones, who lives in Allt-Yr-Yn Heights, right at the top of the hill, said that he and his daughter were woken by the early morning blast.

Later that day, he happened to be recording his workout when another blast was heard.

"Just before 2.25pm, recording my exercise, you can hear the explosion," he said.

If you listen closely to the video above, you can make out the sound.

"The explanation relating to the barracks seems to make sense."

However, as yet this is unconfirmed. Although both the barracks and the MoD have been contacted for more information.
